The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is an optional membership. However, they are an amazing group in my opinion that offers advice, guidance, and assistance in various forms to homeschool families. Just like any company. there may be product offerings or aspects that are not for your family. But, if you are looking for a source to add to your research, their website may be a nice addition.
I am not affiliated with HSLDA. I am a member, a home school parent, and someone who has enjoyed their resources for many years. When first beginning, or even for veteran homeschool families, topics and questions arise. This is a great source to consider for information as part of your research.
Today (November, 2022) the HSLDA website states:
"We partner with our 100,000 member families, donors, homeschool leaders, legislators, and others who want to protect this freedom.
We’ve been trusted for over 35 years to advance and protect homeschool freedom in the courts, legislatures, and in the court of public opinion.
We equip parents with resources, educational consultants, and Compassion grants because we love homeschooling and want more families to experience it.
We know the benefits and challenges of homeschooling personally—most of our staff are homeschool parents and grads."
Over the years in speaking with other homeschool parents, one of the most useful pages on the HSLDA website is the State Laws page. As state requirements may change, and the process can become confusing, I have found this site to share the information with clarity. If you remain unsure after viewing the site, it provides questions and content to draw from when reaching out to your local district, county, or state.
The HSLDA website also offers information related to college entrance exam prep and procedures related to college admissions for homeschool students.
If you are considering an annual HSLDA membership, reach out to one of your local homeschool groups or Facebook groups as there are often group discounts for registering. Who doesn't adore a discount?
